Francona Juggles Boston's Struggling Lineup

Aug 11, 2014 10:15 AM

Red Sox manager Terry Francona juggled the team's lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays. Heading into the game, Boston had lost three of their last four games. Francona dropped Jacoby Ellsbury to eighth and put Dustin Pedroia at the leadoff spot. "We're a little bit in between on our lineup," said Francona. "Sometimes when you don't score you can look at a lot of things. It's a little bit easy to get mixed up so I just like to sit back and think, 'OK, what can help us?' without forgetting, 'what can hurt us?' "

Jun 24, 2014 10:59 PM

The Twins have decided to keep Francisco Liriano in their starting rotation despite his recent struggles. Liriano, who is just 2-7 on the season, lasted just four innings against the Rays on Saturday. Minnesota manager Rod Gardenhire said that the team will likely review Liriano's performance after a few more starts. "I'm definitely not ready to send Frankie to the minor leagues and I'm not ready to send him to the bullpen right now," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Sunday. "We'll just see how it all goes. I'd love to see Frankie just get going in the rotation."

Torre Unsure Of Future After 2010

May 11, 2014 1:56 AM

Dodgers manager Joe Torre isn't sure if he'll continue managing past his contract, which expires in 2010. Torre, 68, is in the second year of his three-year deal with Los Angeles. "I've got another year, but beyond that I'm not sure," Torre said. "Well, next year is always in question. You hope you still continue to feel as energized as you do now." Torre managed the Yankees from 1996 to 2007. "I was wondering if the managing had just gotten to the point where the stress was outweighing the enjoyment," Torre said. "The Dodgers were the first reason that I decided to come here ... another big part was that I was curious if this managing stuff could be fun or if I was just too old -- and it's been fun."

CC Doesn't Know What To Expect In Return To Cleveland

Sep 29, 2014 1:17 PM

Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia doesn't know what to expect when he takes the mound for the first time as a visiting pitcher in Cleveland. Sabathia will start for New York on Saturday night against former teammate Fausto Carmona. "I don't know what to expect for [Saturday]," Sabathia said. It wasn't that long ago that Sabathia expected to end his career with the Indians. "Three or four years ago, if you would have asked me that, I probably would have thought I'd stay here my whole career," Sabathia said. "It just worked out where I got older, we couldn't get a contract done, and I knew I was getting traded." Some of his coaches in Cleveland are hoping that fans are nice to the pitcher. "I certainly hope he gets a nice reception from our fans," Indians pitching coach Carl Willis said. "And I hope he gets a rude reception from us on the field."
